Who We Are
The Journalists Support Committee (JSC) is an independent, non-profit association established in 2016 in response to the growing challenges and violations faced by journalists and media professionals in the Arab region. The Committee works to protect freedom of the press and freedom of expression and to promote a safe and independent media environment that respects professional and ethical standards.
The Committee was registered in London in 2018 (Registration No. 11472736) and in Lebanon in 2024 (Registration No. 1190). It represents journalists, correspondents, photographers, editors, writers, broadcasters, and workers in traditional and digital media across Arab countries. It seeks to defend their rights and enhance their professional safety in accordance with the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and relevant international standards relating to freedom of opinion and expression.
The Committee believes that a free and independent press constitutes a fundamental pillar of democratic societies. Accordingly, it works to monitor violations targeting journalists, issue human rights reports, implement training and capacity-building programs, and cooperate with media institutions and civil society organizations to promote media freedom and protect media workers.
The Committee is committed to independence, neutrality, and political non-alignment. It does not seek profit or material gain, and it does not discriminate on the basis of sectarian, religious, political, or regional differences among citizens, particularly those targeted by its services. Its work is based on the principles of truth and accuracy, independence, integrity, responsibility, and respect for human dignity.
