Journalist Support Committee: Khashoggi's disappearance is reminiscent of the Saudi Arabian authorities who targeted the journalists and dissents

For several days, the Journalist Support Committee has been tracking, with great concern, the news related to the disappearance of the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi after he entered the Saudi Embassy in Turkey on October 2, 2018.

The Journalist Support Committee called the Saudi and Turkish authorities to disclose the fate of Khashoggi. Khashoggi is a US resident, an opposed journalist to the Saudi authorities policies and a columnist at Washington Post.

The committee stated that this disappearance and ambiguity concerning the fate of Khashoggi recalls the Saudi Arabian authorities who targeted the journalists and dissents during the past years. This action constitutes a direct violation against the charters and laws that guarantee the freedom of opinion, expression and movement.

The committee believes that this mysterious disappearance of Khashoggi is a result of repeated impunity. Nevertheless, Saudi Arabia holds a black record in retaliating against netizens on twitter and imprisoning, flogging and even executing dissents. Whereas, the committee recorded several cases of intentional killing of journalists due to the Saudi shelling on media outlets and public information offices in Yemen.

Therefore, we at the Journalist Support Committee sound our call to disclose the fate of Khashoggi, for we fear for his safety amid the Saudi authorities' denial of involvement in his disappearance following his financé's statement, who accompanied him till the embassy’s door, assuring that he entered the embassy and didn’t get out till the moment.
