Press Emblem Campaign's Message to the Human Rights Council

The Press Emblem Campaign for the protection of journalists issued a statement to the Human Rights Council, at its 37th session, asking the international community to protect media outlets and media personnel from the terrorist attacks in Afghanistan.

The campaign also expressed serious concern about restrictions on freedom of opinion and the increasing threats against journalists.

In conclusion, the campaign appealed to the Special Rapporteur to include ways of protecting media personnel from terrorist attacks without harming the freedom of the press.

It should be noted that there is a partnership and cooperation between the Journalist Support Committee and the Press Emblem Campaign for the Protection of Journalists. The Commission has provided a number of reports and evidence of terrorist organizations in Afghanistan targeting media outlets and journalists who have been victims or injured from attacks by terrorist groups.

The Committee continues to provide the campaign, which has consultative status with the Human Rights Council, with the most recent updates concerning the status of freedom of speech and press violations in the Middle East and Asia.
